Grumble Grumble
I’m trying out Windows Live Writer for this post. I wanted to see how it feels, if it’s more comfortable than the WordPress editor I just might switch.
I am such a slacker. I should be posting here more often (preferably daily), I should be posting at HazardousToast (anything at all), and I still haven’t done anything for Toastwerks. And it’s not like I don’t have time.
I bought an HP laptop last weekend. That’s what I’m on right now. I’m enjoying it quite a bit. I was a little worried about Vista, but since it came with the Business edition and I already did a ton of tweaking (the first thing I did was turn off UAC), it isn’t really an issue. I might have to admit that I don’t mind it.
I still think I’d rather go with Linux of some sort if I could get myself out of this Windows rut. I had Ubuntu installed on my work laptop for a while, and though I didn’t really get hardcore into things that I would need it to do, I enjoyed it.
I mentioned a few entries ago that I would talk about some of the web apps that I’ve been using to get my life in line. Well, it’s not much since I’m still a work in progress, but here goes.
- Joe’s Goals
I’ve been using Joe’s Goals as a quick daily motivational tool for myself; if I remember I’ll stick the badge he provides at the end of this entry to show you what I’ve been using it for. The site basically consists of an interactive calendar that lets you set positive or negative goals that have a scoring weight to them. For instance, I have a goal that gives me a point if I bring lunch from home to work, and a goal that takes one away if I eat out for lunch. I think it has helped create some better habits – though I still haven’t done some of the things that I’m trying to accomplish. - FitDay
In an attempt to lose some weight and get back to where I was before I went away to college (which wasn’t good, but it was a good deal better off than I am now), I created a FitDay account. It lets me track my weight change, and provides a food diary so that I can see exactly what I’m eating. FitDay provides a pretty large database of nutritional information for common items, but lets you create a custom item from a nutritional information matrix. It also lets me put in the activities I do each day (I only list the ones that I do specifically for weight loss). - billQ
This site is something I’ve just recently started using – something like the last couple of weeks. Basically, I put all my bills – recurring or not – into it. It tells me what I owe on what date, and sends me email reminders a few days before stuff is due. It also lets me have other people in the site, which lets me set how much of each bill my brother owes (for things like the cable and electric bills). It’s a little Ajaxy, but it doesn’t detract from the interface at all – I think they did a pretty good job. Combined with signing up for payments through the web for most of the stuff that provides the ability, I’ve grabbed a better hold of my bills.
That’s about it for now, but I’ve installed FeedDemon from NewsGator on my laptop, and it monitors Lifehacker and MakeUseOf. These are two blogs that I read that I’ve been picking up a lot of good tips from. Specifically, MakeUseOf has a gigantic directory of web services that I need to browse through one of these days.
On the weight loss front, it’s been pretty good so far. I’ve walked about 1.4 miles almost every night since Christmas time, and I bought a set of dumbbells that I use for half an hour every night. Last Friday I started walking around a mile at lunch time, too, since I get an hour for lunch. It’s been going good so far, although today I missed out on it because my boss was in town and he took all of us out to lunch.
As an aside, why is it that the only women I seem to have any chemistry with are the ones who are already committed to a relationship? It seems that every one I’ve been getting along with lately is either dating someone already or, in more than one case, married. It sucks.
Well, at the end of this entry, which might possibly be the longest one on NQR so far, I’ll have to say that typing in a program on my desktop runs much more smoothly than the editor in the WordPress panel – though it might just be me. And smooth typing doesn’t say anything about the other features of the program, or how well it posts to the site. We’ll have to save that for after I post this. My enjoyment in writing this post may also be attributed to the fact that I decided to wait until I was done writing to go back and add all the hyperlinks into the post, which cut down on the interruptions.
