New Motivation Targets; Plus: Juno Review

I sat down to write a post here, mostly because I feel like I should be writing more.  I know that I shouldn’t put so much effort into something that I have to force myself to do, but I do actually like doing this.  I just need to get back on a schedule or something.  I think I’m going to start sending myself reminders on a daily basis to write something.

I’m going to ‘buckle down’ at work and get some stuff done.  I feel like I slack a little too much – sure, I get my work done, but that’s about it.  I goof off too much, so I’m going to try and cut back a bit.

Tonight I just watched Juno.  I feel like I’m jumping on another bandwagon after most everyone else bailed again, but I really enjoyed it.  To start a new trend for my blog, I’m going to try and break it down, like a real review.  I really liked Juno’s father in this one.  Other than J Jonah Jameson from the Spider-man movies, I can’t really remember J. K. Simmons from the other films I’ve seen that he was cast in.  I thought he was terrific here, though.  The interactions between the classmates were great – I’m not going to claim they were ‘realistic’ because I hate when that term is used as a measure of a film’s greatness.  Most of the rest of the movie was great.  However, I have to point out a few of the things I was disappointed in.  For some reason, I can’t stand Jennifer Garner.  She just turns me off anytime I see her on screen.  I wasn’t impressed with the role that Jason Bateman was cast in, though I think that was my preexisting bias.  He is one of my favorite actors, but since he was playing such an unlikable character I couldn’t stand it.  I also didn’t think Michael Cera got enough screen time in the movie – they could have played up the friendship between his character and Juno a lot more.

All in all, I really enjoyed the movie, and I’d probably watch it again.  I definitely recommend it to other people, though I suggest that you watch it with a friend.
