The Thoroughbred of Sin
Editor’s Note: I originally started writing this post on Saturday 7/19, so stuff may be a little off kilter timeline wise.
I just want to join in with nearly everyone else on the internet by directing you over to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. When I originally started writing this post, it was still up for free. Right now, the only way to get it is through Itunes. I’m not sure what the price is set at, but it’s probably worth it for a few bucks in Itunes form.
Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, allow me to ramble on a little bit to catch up on what’s been going on. Once again I’m going to try to post at least once a week here, we’ll see how that goes. Also included in this would be trying yet again to post some things on HazardousToast and Toastwerks. Work + non-work stuff + Warcraft = not a lot of time to devote to the writing I’d like to do. I know that if I was really committed or interested in writing/sketching, I would find time to do it, but sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day. To this end I’ve set up a calendar schedule for the things I’d like to write, but we’ll see how that falls out.
Related to that, I’ve migrated the email @toastwerks.com to Google Apps. Pretty easy to do through Dreamhost, and I’m always a fan of Gmail. I’ve had my notquiterational email at Gmail since the early invite period. The Google Apps for my domain calendar is what I’m using to schedule the writing so far, as I’ve quit using local mail clients on my PCs.
I’m on call for my company this weekend. I’m starting to get a little burnt out on the stupid lately. I don’t have a problem at all with honest ignorance – if you haven’t had something explained to you at least once or at least given instructions to read on your own, I don’t expect you to know it inside out. But what I’ve had a problem with lately is the people who don’t listen to me – I explain something and then they do it while I’m explaining it. Then five minutes later they have to call me back because they didn’t bother writing it down or even listening. What’s worse lately are the new hires who come in and start demanding stuff from us – it’s like, I get the fact that you started today and your boss requested a Blackberry for you (btw, I don’t know many people at work who really need a BB), but since we were only informed of the fact yesterday there is no way we can get one from the phone company for you. There is no reason to bitch at me because your department is useless.
After reading about the benefits of online savings at GetRichSlowly, I decided it might be a good idea to start putting money into a savings account other than the one directly connected to my car payment. I opened up an account at HSBCDirect, and so I’m going to start putting a little bit of my extra money in there. One good thing about the HSBC online is that they offer an ATM card for it, which gives me emergency access to it if I have, well, an emergency.
Oswego Harborfest is this coming weekend, I fully intend to go this year. It should actually be something that I get to do outside work. Good for the soul or something.
Facebook has been pretty weird lately. Someone from my high school managed to stumble on to my profile, and added me as a friend. I thought, ‘weird,’ and just forgot about it. However, over the last few days a metric crapton of people from my hometown have added me as a friend. Several of them are married – I believe I’ve made my views about old friends who are married very clear – and that’s pretty freaky. Am I that old?
